Social Stories™ were developed by Dr Carol Gray to help children with autism understand the social world. A Social Story™ describes a social situation or social concept by describing the cues, perspectives, and common responses of people. Ten criterion were developed to guide the formatting and style of each story.
Each Social Story™ should include seven sentence types: Descriptive, Perspective, Affirmative, Coaching (3 types – those that coach the child, the team and self-coaching) and Partial Sentences.
However, it is very difficult to remember these sentence types. So, I have developed a “cheat sheet” to help you to remember these. It is based on the acronym SPACE.
